I recently got cozy with the App Store on a 3-hour road trip to San Diego. I’m not a fan of long car rides, but is anyone? Luckily, my trip to SD seemed quicker than usual thanks to my handy dandy iPhone.

    The Moron Test
Even though I cringe a little every time I accept the download for a paid app, my curiosity got the best of me with this one – Am I a moron?

This highly addictive app is like an obstacle course for the iPhone – touch the green button 5 times, scare the turtles in order from smallest to biggest, don’t do what the next direction tells you to do. Once you make a (simple) mistake and have to start from the ‘checkpoint’, GAME ON. Maybe you’re familiar with the kind of madness I experienced playing this game- “I seriously missed that? Too easy. Lets do it again.” It costs $0.99 but worth it for us ADD folks.

    Unblock Me (Free)
The point of the game is to free the red block. The twist is that blocks either move vertically or horizontally – not both. I won’t lie, it took me at least 5 minutes to free the first red block, but once I figured out an effective strategy, transitioning to new levels became addicting. I haven’t tried out the paid version; the free one was enough for me. Nothin to lose when trying this one out.

    Text messaging – straight up
Having the ability to hold 4 conversations, hell 12 conversations, at once, without disturbing the driver, is truly priceless. Sure, texting is available on pretty much all cell phones today; my grandma even text messages. But, I think the value of texting is often overlooked. I can catch up on the details from my BFF’s night out in San Francisco, update my family in Sacramento (including my grandma) on my current location and coordinate grocery shopping with my roomie in SB all at once…and for a reasonable price.

Texting, for me, has been a truly revolutionary (YES, revolutionary) form of communication; increasing contact with loved ones and decreasing the amount of energy required for communication.

    One more for the road…DirectTV
DVR from your iPhone. Need I say more? I had to mention this one because they way I fell in love with it was like a scene in a movie: In a rush, as always, I ran out with the BF to get dinner after our long trip. Upon entering the grocery store parking lot we realized that we forgot to program our new DVR. Of course, there’s an app for that. I downloaded the app in less than a minute and had my shows setup to record in another minute. Yesssssss.

I actually found the app to be more useful than the menu on the television. Transitioning to a new provider, I’m lost in a sea of channels. With the app I can *easily* search for my fave shows (Curb, Glee, Dexter, The Office to name a few).

And so the iPhone madness begins…

*WARNING: iPhone-ing for an extended period of time as a passenger in a car (because you would NEVER use your iPhone while driving) may cause you to feel sick. My brain moves too fast for me to fall victim to that symptom…by which I mean I belong to ADD Anonymous:)
